We are looking for a passionate and caring Musculoskeletal Radiologist to join our team of skilled professionals and provide health care services to our veterans and their families at the US Air Force Academy in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday: Day Shift
  • No nights, no weekends

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs special procedures. Recommends and performs special imaging procedures, including fluoroscopy, tomography, nuclear imaging, ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging, with limitations of available resources and expertise. Determines need for referral of cases that are not within local capability.
  • Routine radiographic studies including the chest, abdomen, extremities, head and neck.
  • Special radiographic studies including fluoroscopic procedures (barium swallow, upper gastrointestinal studies, barium enema, etc.; radiographic procedures of the genitourinary tract, and musculoskeletal system.
  • Performs and interprets myelograms using fluoroscopic guidance.
  • Performs a wide variety of ultrasound scans and procedures on patients according to established protocols.
  • Performs and interprets all type of studies acquired by CT or MRI scanning.
  • Prescribes and dispenses medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient and significant others’ rights, as identified within the institution.
  • Demonstrate appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities.
  • Participates in monthly Prostaff meetings to review and evaluate the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems exist. Should a meeting occur outside the contract radiologist’s regular working hours, he/she shall be required to read and initial the minutes of the meeting. Participates in weekly meetings of flight radiologists.
  • Performs limited administrative duties which include maintaining statistical records of his/her workload, operate and manipulate automated systems such as Composite Health Care System (CHCS), participating in education programs, and participating in clinical staff quality assurance functions and Process Action Teams, as prescribed by the 10th MDG.
  • If a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection is available and functioning, the radiologist will have the ability to view images from home. A VPN connection will require a high-speed internet connection (provided by the contractor) and a government-supplied laptop or PC.
  • Must follow site required health screening and immunization requirements.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have completed a one-year Musculoskeletal Fellowship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
  • Must have completed a Residency training program or fellowship in Radiology that is approved by the Accreditation Council for graduate Medical Education or by the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association.
  • Must be eligible for radiology Credentialing in the 10th Medical Group and the 21st Medical Group and possess a current, valid, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine.
  • Must be board certified in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology and will maintain that board certification.
  • Must have a minimum of 24 months experience as a radiologist within the past three years.
  • Must be able to provide at least two letters of recommendation written within the last two years attesting to his/her clinical skills. A minimum of one of the letters must be from a physician supervisor. The other letter must be from either a clinic or hospital administrator, or a practicing physician. The radiologist must represent an acceptable malpractice risk to the USAF.
  • Health and immunization requirements: annual physical; annual TB test; annual influenza; MMR; varicella; Hepatitis B.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
  • Promote preventive and health maintenance care, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function and strive to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.
  • Provides training, as applicable, to supporting Government employees (i.e., technologists, students, etc.) assigned as subordinates in the performance of duties.

Position consists of sitting for long periods of time, using hands/fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, speaking or translating. Periods of walking, standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting boxes weighing up to 30 pounds. Moderate to extended periods of office work with heavy periods of computer usage. May be assigned occasional to moderate periods of analytical tasks requiring extensive reasoning abilities. Work is performed primarly indoors at a well-lit military treatment facility such as clinic, outpatient facility or hospital. The environment is normally air conditioned, but conditions may change dependent upon circumstances. Work may need to be performed in a fast-paced environment requiring quick thinking and rapid judgements. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of clients in differing functions, personalities and abilities. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids, latex, radiation or other contaminants and safety issues. May be exposed to infection or diseases from contact with patients. Work is highly social with patients and can be stressful with a high emotional elements. Decisions made may substantially impact patients and their families.
